What produces more severe burns, boiling water or steam?

Steam produces more severe burns as compared to boiling water. This is because of the latent heat of vaporization. The boiling water absorbs the latent heat of vaporization from the body in contact and make the body cool. Whereas steam does not do so. Therefore, steam produces more severe burns than boiling water.

Steam produces more severe burns as its has absorbed the latent heat to get evaporated from liquid boiling water to steam.
