On 10th May 1994 Nelson Mandela was sworn as South Africa`s first Black President of the country. It was for the first time in three decades that a black was elected as a President which was previously held by white Presidents. The African National Congress party headed by Mr Nelson Mandela won 252  out of the total 400 seats during the first ever democratic election in the history of South Africa.

The oath ceremony took place in the Union building amphitheatre in the presence of politicians and dignitaries from more than 140 countries of the world.

During his oath ceremony speech Mr Nelson Mandela thanked all the international politicans, leaders and guests and marked the day as a symbol of rejoice and victory for Justice. He assured that his country would never ever face the experience of oppression of one by another.
