The stomach is the first step in digestion of proteins, contrary to the digestion of carbohydrates and lipids which start in the mouth. It will also produce gastric lipase to partially digest lipids and mucus to help protect the stomach lining from its own acid.

To protect the inner lining of the stomach from acid the stomach produce mucus which works as a base and we know when acid and base mixes it neutralizes....
