In the short story 'A Horse and Two Goats' by R.K. Narayan, the location of the village Kritam on the district survey map served the revenue officials for the purpose of collection of taxes. It did not help in the guidance of motorists as the village was located far away from the highway at the end of a rough track that was marked with iron-hooped wheels of bullock carts.
