In the poem the Nightingale is the symbol for a leader, so it displays the quality of a leader who doesn't have any mutual respect for the fellow-being. Thus the nightingale preys upon the glow-worm because it is his nature to do so. He believes that since the glow-worm is different from him, he can eat the glow-worm.
