Its a simple maths, 6 litres of 50% acidic water means 3 litre pure water and 3 L acid. That means ratio of quantity of acid to quantity of water is 1:1. Now we want x litres of 20% acidic water. If u calculate it in the same way as above, we want the ratio of quantity of acid to quantity of water to be 1:4. We have to add water in our solution in order to reduce acidic nature, so quantity of acid is constant i. e, 3 L. But this time our ratio is 1:4 so quantity of water required is 12 L. We already have 3 L of water so we shall have to add remaining 9 L to it, to get mentioned result.
