There are multiple views about this, but most of the consultants echo the same view and say a gap of five years or more for a PG course is not acceptable and for Under grads, 2 years and below is an acceptable one, but there is no such rule anywhere available, its completely up to the Universities and colleges to decide if they want you as a student in their college. Their offer to you is completely based on the selection and screening of your profile when you apply. Most colleges have their screening committees and its decided by this screening committees.
In my opinion the visa officer has to be convinced with a good justification of the gap and your work history should suffice. Visa officers will only assess based on the available papers and certain criteria. If such was a case then, no senior executives of corporates of other institutions having 10–15 years of experience would never have gone to pursue professional degrees abroad and then come back. People generally take gap to gain experience and then they opt for higher education to hone their managerial and leadership skills further.
This is completely my view and I feel one should just be honest in filing the papers.
All the best to all who are willing to pursue their academic career.
