calcium oxide reacts with water andcalcium hydroxide is obtained. There is a strong exothermic reaction. CaO +H2O -> Ca(OH)2. ... When water is added tocalcium oxide (quicklime), it will be converted to calcium hydroxide (slaked lime) with the liberation of enormous amount of heat.
