Protection from natural Calamities is not easy. Most of the damage during excess rainfall is caused by water logging. Water logging happens when the surface soil becomes impenetrable to water. This happens because the soil is compacted over the years due to the weight of tractors and other agricultural machinery. If this hard layer is broken and the soil is in compacted, it will allow the water to percolate deeper into the ground. The process used for breaking this hard layer of soil is called subsoiling. Generally it is recommended to do subsoiling once in 3 years. But very few farmers are aware of this. And only a few practice this. The cost of a single Tyne subsoiler will cost about 15k rupees, but the benefits of using one far outweigh the expenses. Apart from preventing waterlogging, subsoiling also improves the productivity of the crop by increasing the moisture holding capacity of soil and also allows root system to expand much better. So I would say this is a simple task that every farmer can do improve productivity and increase the chances of protection against natural Calamities.
