There are three types of simple permanent tissues in plants.

These are described below:

1. PARENCHYMA

Parenchyma are commonly known as the parenchymatous cells.

They have little or no intracellular space between their cells.

The cells of parenchyma are equal in diameter which have different shapes like oval, round, polygonal, etc.

They have walls which are thin and are composed of cellulose.

The most important is that they are living cell.

2. COLLENCHYMA

This tissue is living.

It provides mechanical support to shoots of plant body.

This tissue is absent in monocot stem.

3. SCLERENCHYMA

They are dead tissues.

Their function is to provide support to the plant body.
