Guru wanted to save his disciple so he said a lie to the king and the minister that whoever dies on this stake first would become a king in his next life and the second to die on that stake would become a minister in his second life so he asked the king to make them to be slayed on the stake but in the guru's mind he knew that the king would postpone the death or the punishment and die himself and would be saved.
