When Sergie finally recalled that it's the man who told him that he was a teacher before then Lushkoff said the truth to Sergie that he was working with the Russell choirs team nd they had left him as he was a drinkable person and if he would tell the truth to every one then no one would help him.This was the explanation given by Lushkoff to Sergie.
