Aung San Suu Kyi is the Chairperson of the opposition party, National League for Democracy, in Myanmar.She joined politics in 1988 and demanded political reforms and establishment of Democracy for Burma. However, the military Government arrested her and put under house arrest. While in detention, She won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1991. She was released recently in 2010.In 2012, she has been elected as a member of the lower House of the Burmese government.The Indian Government too had recognized her efforts by awarding her the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding.
