Duke is like an angel in hooper life,because duke helped hooper in walking with paralisyed side.It helped a lot and in the end duke died due to an accident.

From the chapter:DUKE played a important role im making hooper i a normal person.If without duke it would not have been possible to restore himself.He understood hoopers problem and never jumped on him.He eagerly waited every step chuck made and slowly chuck was able to do work.So it was befithing tribute to duke.
