The English education played an important role in the growth of Nationalism in India. It was due to English education the Indians came to know about the rights and privileges the citizens in Europe used to enjoy and wanted the same in India.The western education made the Indians to have a rational outlook and they became familiar with the ideas of equality ,socialism, democracy,liberty,freedom of thought and expression. It was due to influence of western education they began to shun social evils, of which they were the victims for a long time.

The English education also served as a medium of communication among the leaders and brought them in contact with each other. These English educated Indians were influenced by the philosophical and revolutionary ideas of Milton, J.S Mill, Locke, Rousseau which also helped in the growth of Nationalism. It were the English educated Indians who were instrumental in political awakening and organization of political and national movements in India.
