What role did the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers play in the development of civilization?

All the early civilization started on the banks of river.River brought fertile soil which was necessary for farming and agriculture.From agriculture they got surplus food.This helped them to do other works than worry about their food.Thus , it was the start of distribution of labour and start of civilization.
