What role did women play during the revolutionary years in France?

(a) During Revolutionary years for their interests, women started their own political clubs and newspapers. They set up about sixty women clubs which emerged in different French cities.

(b) The most famous among them was The Society of Revolutionary and Republican Women.

(c) They demanded the right to enjoy the same political rights as men i.e., right to vote, to be elected to the Assembly and to hold political office.

From the very begining women were active participants in the events which brought about so many changes in the french society.Most women of third estate had to work for a living.Most women did not have access to job training.

In order to voice their intrests women started their own political alubs and newspapers.About 60 womens club came up in different french cities. the Society of Revolutionary and Republican Women was the most famous of them. One of their major demands was that women enjoy same politicals rights as men. Women were dissapointed that the Constitution of 1791 reduced them to passive citizens.

It was finally in 1946 that women in france got the right to vote.
