Caste plays an important role in the current society as it determines the status of an individual in current era. Caste determines their level of superiority and inferiority.
In current century caste is discriminating from one to other. must powerful castes in today's India is brahmins followed by yadavs and the lowest caste is dalit. in Olden era caste was made to categorise people according to their work but now it made an totally different definition.

Caste has three very important role in Indian society:

Marriages. It is the most important factor in choosing boy/girl for your marriage. You can visibly see the importance in any matrimonial site.

Elections . For politicians like Lalu, Mayawati, Mulayam etc this is the only agenda in politics.

Reservations . It decides who gets the government job irrespective of talent.
