the friction acting between hand and axe. helps to give firm grip to hold the axe.... for better cutting of wood..... other wise it will slip out from hand

Apart from the friction between the hand and the axe , which helps in giving a firm grip, the friction between the edge of the axe and the part of the wood which has to be cut also plays a vital role in cutting of wood. Without these 2 important aspects of friction the cutting of wood is next to impossible.
