While playing football friction helps our feet to stable on ground, take kicks without slipping and run easily on playing surface. It also helps the goalie grab on to the ball and for players to take throw ins and headers.

ake football for example, when you kick the ball, it stops after a while due to friction or else it would go on forever according to Newton's first law of inertia you kick with a force F, the grass/ground applies frictional force because of normal force produced by the weight of the ball acting on the ground's surface. this frictional force constantly slows the ball eventually causing it to stop.
