what role does nature play in our life

To me, nature is a sheltering force, keeping me healthy. I have several reasons to get out and walk, as many as five days a week, 1.5 to 3 miles, for 50 to 60 minutes. Being in my 60’s now, I have had to adjust to the idea that I must not be sedentary. My parents were poor examples, and I have not been athletic. I have gained unwelcome weight that threatens my self-respect. I have had three back surgeries and still have some pain. Walking reduces aches and pains and helps me control - if not lose - weight.
I have found that walking on the treadmill is useful when it is raining, but is not satisfying to my emotional state. Breathing fresh air, feeling the wind and sun on my skin, hearing the sounds of my city as well as the sounds of birds, crickets, children playing, the rush of cars, the bubbling of life all around me - this is what walking outdoors - in nature - means to me. Though an urban girl, my natural environment, is a tonic I need as often as possible.
