The glum-faced man was playing the role of marshal in the story,who catched mr. Easton for the crime of counterfeiting and was taking mr. Easton to the prison of leavenworth for seven years.But when he saw miss fairchild who was an old friend of mr. Easton,so,for showing some kind of impression on miss fairchild,the glum faced man helped mr.easton and was acting like a criminal and was letting mr. Easton to be the marshal.
