Trade helped the economy and helped when they were in need of certain resources but had plenty of other things they didn't neccarily need and could trade. However, they had a lot of useful and good resources due to their geography. Southeast Asia was generally warm, accept in highland areas where it was somewhat cooler. They also had jungle and sea resources such as trees(fruits, wood, leaves, bugs, etc.), fish, water, certain coral and sea items, dirt and soil to farm certain things, and more. This helped them live and thrive but also to trade.
