1.  Identify the elements and their symbol

example: N (NITROGEN), H (HYDROGEN)

2. If there's an element with only 1 atom, write the element alone in its symbol form

example: N

3. If there's an element with two or more atoms, add a subscript (its a little number written to the right and a little below the symbol. It represents the amount of atoms of an element), and make sure it's balance.

4. Add the symbols with their subscripts together.

Example: N + H ₃ = NH ₃
