The rumours that spread along the countryside was that big landlords were sending troops for destroying the crops of peasants.
Hearing this the peasants got angry and attacked on them. They destroyed documents. This caused many of the landlords to migrate from the country.

Dear Student,
On the morning of 14 July 1789, in the city of Paris, the king had commanded troops to move into the city. Rumours spread like a fire that he would soon order the army to open fire upon the citizens. Alarmed at such a news, some 7,000 men and women stormed into the prison called Bastille; killed the commander; freed the prisoners and demolished the fortress prison.
