The Chandrasekhar Limit of 1.4 solar masses, is the theoretical maximum mass a white dwarf star can have and still remain a white dwarf (though this limit does vary slightly depending on the metallicity).

Answer:-

Heavy explosion known as supernova may occur in a star of large mass. The remaining part when different pieces fly away in different direction is known as 'white dwarf'. When mass of white dwarf is at least 1.44 times of solar mass, neutron star will appear first which gets converted into black hole finally. This Idea was proposed by S Chandrasekhar an astro physicist in his honour the minimum mass required for white dwarf to become black hole was named as Chandrashekhar limit.
