  • When the sponge is soaked in the water there is a scientific explanation to it.  
  • The increased ‘surface tension’ is created by the ‘structure of the sponge’ with small holes in it that draw in the moisture and it sticks to the surface of the sponge.  
  • It is then absorbed by the material. If there were a larger number of holes in the sponge then there would be more surface area in the sponge and it can, therefore, store more amount of water inside.
