Hit and trial method:

• It is a simple method to balance the chemical equation.

• It is also described as a trial and error method.

• To balance the equation by making the number of atoms of each element which is equal on both sides of the equation.

• By using this method, the coefficient of the formula of the reactant and products are adjusted in such a way that the total number of atoms of each element on both side becomes equal.

Steps to follow in balancing chemical equation are as follows:

Step 1: Write the equation using symbols and formula.

Step 2: If elementary gases are present like oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, then write them in the atomic state.

Step 3: Start balancing with a formula containing a maximum number of  atoms.

Step 4:  Balance atoms of any elementary gas in the last.

The other ways of balancing chemical equation are:

Partial equation method, oxidation number method, and ion-electron method.
