The passé composé is the most used past tense in the modern French language. It is used to express an action that has been finished completely or incompletely at the time of speech, or at some time in the past.

abdullahrbx: Can you give me examples of it?
IronLion: Here are some examples: J'ai mangé means ''I ate'' or ''I have eaten'' or ''I did eat'' (regular -er verb) Tu as fini means ''You finished'' or ''You have finished'' or ''You did finish'' (regular -ir verb) Ils ont attendu means ''They waited'' or ''They have waited'' or ''They did wait'' (regular -re verb)

Simple past or present perfect in English is equivalent to passé composé in French.

Rule : 1 Subject + avoir in present + participe passé

Manger - to eat

J'ai mangê

Tu as mangé

Il /elle a mangé

Nous avons mangé

Vous avez mangé

Ils/elles ont mangé

There are many verbs whose participe passé are irregular and they must be memorized.

Rule : 2

Subject + être in present + participle passé + accord

( verbs of motion and direction like aller, venir, sortir, entrer, mourir.....)

Aller - to go

Je suis allé

Tu es allé

Il est allé

Elle est allée

Nous sommes allés

Vous êtes allés

Ils sont allés

Elles sont allées

Rule : 3 Pronominal verbs

Sub + se + être + participe passé + accord

Je me suis amusé

Tu t'es amusé

Il s'est amusé

Elle s'est amusée

Nous nous sommes amusés

Vous vous êtes amusés

Ils se sont amusés

Elles se sont amusées
