Periodic motion:-
- The motion which repeats itself after regular interval of time in a fixed path is called periodic motion
- The constant interval of time after which motion is repeated is called time period.
Example :-
- Motion of planets around Sun.
- Motion of pendulum.

Oscillatory motion:-
- When a body moves to and fro about a fixed point, then it's motion is called oscillatory motion.
- The fixed point about which the body moves is called mean position.
Example:-
- Motion of Pendulum
- Motion of wire of guitar.

Knowledge cell:-
- Is periodic and oscillatory motion same/ synonymous?
Ans:- Every Periodic motion isn't oscillatory motion. But when mechanical energy is conserved every oscillatory motion can be said to be a periodic motion.
- Simple Harmonic Motion, is it oscillatory?
Ans:- Simple Harmonic Motion is simplist form is oscillatory motion with fixed extreme points. In SHM, total mechanical energy of particle remains constant.
