Retardation is the act or result of delaying; the extent to which anything is retarded or delayed; that which retards or delays.

The acceleration can only be denoted as positive acceleration and negative acceleration. As acceleration is a vector, it has magnitude and direction dependence. When we say deceleration, it means the speed is slowing down. ... The Retardation is used in general context, it also means same as deceleration.
