if the external pressure applied on the solution is greater than the osmotic pressure of the solution, then osmosis takes place from region of higher molar concentration to a region of lower molar concentration.this phenomenon is known as reverse osmosis.
- A very wide use of reverse osmosis is obtaining drinking water from sea water.
- it is used for removing the salt from water molecules.
- it is also used in removing of ions.
- this was first searched in 1950.this is done for water filtration.
