I think Karen is right we know that 5^x-4=5^4
so 5 will cancel and the values left will be x-4=4hence x=8
now for second 2^2x-2=2^8
2 will get canceled the values will be 2y-2=8 solving it we get y as 5
now 2x-y
putting the values 2*8-5
