system software are like operating system, language translator, etc.

Difference between system software and application software:

System Software:

System software is general-purpose software that manages the resources of a computer and provides assistance to application software. A computer can not run without system software. An example of system software is the operating system.

Application Software:

Application software is a specific purpose software that contains functions and procedures to complete a specific task. A computer can easily run without application software. An example of an application software is Microsoft Word.
