Rutherford experiment is also known as alpha particle scattering experiment. in this experiment, Rutherford bombarded alpha particle on gold foil and observed that
(1) most of the alpha particles get passed showing that there are much empty space in atom.
(2) a small fraction of alpha particles got deflected through small angle.showing that there is a positive charge particle in an atom.
(3) very few did not pass through gold foil but suffered a large deflection, showing that there is a heavy mass in the centre of an atom
