We added a wall to divide a single room into two rooms on the second floor of our house. The final step was to re-route the air conditioning duct, so the new room would get some air too. To do this, I had to cut into the floor behind one of the walls.

No big deal. I just got out the ole’ circular saw and started cutting into the floor. I could see where the joists were. Just aim between them. How hard can it be, right?

Here’s a helpful tip: don’t cut deeper than you need to when cutting into floors or walls.

The floor was about 2 inches thick. The blade went down about 6 inches.

And underneath the floor were the pipes for the radiators on the second floor.

I cut right through one of the pipes, and all of the water from all of the radiators on the second floor of my house came gushing out, right into the ceiling and walls of the floor below.

Over the next week, I spent about $1,000 getting the pipe fixed, re-painting the ceilings and walls on the first floor, and even replacing some of the electrical switches that got wet.
