Quality Answer:

The reason behind collapsing building during earthquake is that when an earthquake occurs, the ground beneath the building moves, it displaces the placement of the buildings which sends shockwaves through the structure of the building, hence causing it to vibrate or move back and forth.

Short Answer:

Building collapses because of the shockwaves created by the earthquake.

Answer:

An earthquake is caused when 2 tectonic plates converge or crash into each other. This causes the land to shake alot.

Buildings having a strong foundation also cannot escape the worst earthquakes. Since the building is attached to the ground by its foundation, When an earthquake occurs and the ground starts shaking or vibrating , It causes the foundation of the building to loosen and thus the building collapses.
