From the following figure You can understand the situation
Multiplying with eq. (i) with 3 we get 15x=6y+6
aslo multiplying eq. ii with 2 we get 32 -4x=6y
By subtraction of both
15x-32+4x=6y+6-6y
19x-32=6
x=38/19=2
Subtituting x in eq. ii
We get 16-2*2=3y
3y=12
y=4
So, x=2 and y=4
