Explanation:

Let us learn TIR(Total Internal Reflection) .

  1. in first case the angle of emergent ray is less then 90° then refraction takes place.
  2. In this case the emergent ray is 90° the ray travels parallel to the normal.
  3. In this case the emergent ray is more than 90° the ray redlects back into the medium back.

TIR means the incident ray reflects back insted of refraction.

WHEN A RAY OF LIGHT PASSES FROM A MEDIUM OF HIGHER OPTICAL DENSITY TO A MEDIUM OF LOWER OPTICAL DENSITY AT AN ANGLE OF INCIDENCE GREATER THAN THE CRITICAL ANGLE,THE RAY IS REFLECTED BACK TO THE SAME MEDIUM WITH OUT UNDERGOING REFRACTION.THIS KNOWN AS TOTAL INTERNAL REFLECTION.
