Answer:

Given:

The ratio is 7 : 13

Let us add a number say x to each term.

The ratio becomes

==> ( 7 + x ) : ( 13 + x)

Now given;

2 : 3 = ( 7 + x ) : ( 13 + x )

So:

==> 2 / 3 = ( 7 + x ) / ( 13 + x )

==> Cross multiplying gives us:-

==> 2 ( 13 + x) = 3( 7 +x )

==> 26 + 2 x = 21 + 3 x

==> 3 x - 2 x = 26 -21

==> x = 5

We get that number to be 5.

Let us verify the solution:

( 7 + 5 ) : ( 13 + 5)

==> 12 : 18

==> 2 : 3

Hence verified
