This piece for work ("The devil and Tom walker") by Washington Irving, consists certain direct as well as certain indirect forms of characterization. two of the main characters i.e. the character of Tom walker and that of the Devil are somewhat miserable and miserly.
There are certain indirect characters like that of the old scratch to who, the soul might be sold just in exchange or for the sake of some amount of money.
There is a paragraph that starts as "O, I go by ........"
This is an example of indirect characterization since here all the evil acts and unwanted actions have been described, that have been done by the devil . However he did not admit that he was bad himself.
