Dictionary definitions of xenophobia include: "deep-rooted fear towards foreigners" (OxfordEnglish Dictionary; OED), and "fear of the unfamiliar" (Webster's). The word comes from the Ancient Greek words ξένος (xenos), meaning "strange", "foreigner", and φόβος (phobos), meaning "fear".
