Given :-

Two numbers i.e -5/12 and 1/4

To Find :-

What should be added to -5/12 to get 1/4 .

Used Concepts :-

  • Fractions.

Solution:-

Let , the number that should be added to -5/12 to get 1/4 be = x

Then , According To Question ,

 \frac{ -5 }{12}  + x =  \frac{1}{4}

x =  \frac{1}{4}  +  \frac{5}{12}

x =  \frac{3 + 5}{12}

x =  \frac{8}{12}

x =  \frac{2}{3}

Therefore , The required answer is 2/3.

then, -5/12 + x = 1/4

x = 1/4 - (-5/12)

x = 1/4 + 5/12

x = ( 3×1 ) + ( 1×5 ) / 12

x = (3+5)/12

x = 8/12 or 8÷4/12÷4 = 2/3 (4 is HCF of 8 and 12)
