let the unknown number be "x"

 \frac{13}{14}  + x =  -  \frac{5}{21}

x =  -  \frac{5}{21}  -  \frac{13}{14}  \\ x =  \frac{ - 10 - 39}{42}  \\ x =  -  \frac{49}{42}

Answer:

let the number be x

According to Question

13/14+x = -5/21

13+14x/14 = -5/21

273+294x = -70

294x = -70-273

294x = -343

x = -343/294

x = -7/6
