Let some function y be added to 3a + 2b - 7 to get -a + b + 1.

Hence,

(3a + 2b - 7) + y = -a + b + 1

=> y = -a + b + 1 - (3a + 2b - 7)

=> y = -a + b + 1 - 3a - 2b + 7

=> y = -4a - b + 8
