From the question, the equation formed is :-

 \frac{5}{8}  + x =  \frac{ - 9}{14}

x =   \frac{ - 9}{14}  -  \frac{5}{8}

Taking LCM of 8 & 14, we get :-

x =  \frac{ - 36}{56}  -  \frac{35}{56}

x =  \frac{ - 36 - 35}{56}  =   - \frac{ 71}{56}
