Solution,

Let the number that we have to find be X.

Now let us add X to the number 7/3 and suppose we get the sum as 3/7.

Mathematically, it can be represented as-

⇒   X + 7/3 = 3/7.

Shifting 7/3 from LHS to RHS then its sign would also change from +7/3 to -7/3 in RHS.

So, in the next step we would get,

⇒   X  = 3/7 - 7/3

⇒   X = \frac{3(3)-7(7)}{7(3)}

⇒   X = \frac{9-49}{21}

⇒   X = -40/21.

Hence, -40/21 should be added to 7/3 to get the sum as 3/7.
