Let the number to be added is x.

4+x , 7+x , 14+x , 22+x be in proportion

Now,( 4+x) × (22+x) =( 7 + x) × (14+x)

88 + 26 x + x² = 98 + 21 x + x²

26 x -21 x = 98 - 88

5 x = 10

x = 2 .

Therefore, 2 must be added to all numbers to make 4 , 7 , 14 , 22 in proportion.

(4+x)(22+x)=(7+x )(14+x)
88+4x+22x +x*x=98+7x +14x +x*x
(26-21)x+x*x - x*x=98-88
5x=10
