Let the number which must be added be x

Their sum is 7/2

An equation will be formed in order to find the other number


So,

$\frac{1}{2} + \frac{2}{3} + x = \frac{7}{2}$
by adding 1/2 and 2/3 in LHS,
we have,


$\frac{7}{6} + x = \frac{7}{2}$

transposing 7/6 to RHS so that the RHS is left with x ,

we have,

$x = \frac{7}{2} - \frac{7}{6}$

$x = \frac{ 21 - 7}{6}$

$x = \frac{14}{6}$
reducing 14/6 to it's simpliest form,
we have,


$x = \frac{7}{3}$


So,
