Let the number which is to be found be x.

So,

 -  \frac{5}{3}  + x + x =  \frac{7}{4}   \\  \\ -  \frac{5}{3}  + 2x =  \frac{7}{4}  \\  \\ 2x =  \frac{7}{4}  +  \frac{5}{3}  \\  \\ 2x =  \frac{21 + 20}{12}  \\  \\ 2x =  \frac{41}{12}  \\ \\x =  \frac{41}{12 \times 2}  \\  \\  \bf x =  \frac{41}{24}

Check:

 -  \frac{5}{3}  +  \frac{41}{24}  +  \frac{41}{24}  =  \frac{7}{4}  \\  \\  \frac{ - 40 + 82}{24}  =  \frac{7}{4}  \\  \\  \frac{42}{24}  =  \frac{7}{4}  \\  \\  \frac{7}{4}  =  \frac{7}{4}

Hence proved!
